Rev Dr. Tissa Weerasingha became the Pastor of Calvary Church in 1975, at which time it was a congregation of about 70 members, although it had been in existence since the early 1950s. Calvary Church has now grown into a network of churches in Sri Lanka and beyond.
Based on solid Biblical teaching, with an emphasis on evangelism and phenomenal local stewardship principles, this ministry has outgrown two buildings and is currently in the midst of a multi-level building project with a spacious auditorium.
Calvary International Ministries was birthed out of a Word to ‘sow beside all waters’, and brought a global vision to the ministry. Many short term missions followed, resulting in ministries being pioneered in other parts of the world.
Calvary Theological Seminary, the training arm of Calvary Church was also begun when the need arose to train and equip new workers in theology and practical ministry, as well as the Scriptural principles on which Calvary’s ministry is based.
WHO WE ARE
Calvary Church Abu Dhabi is a fellowship of believers seeking to develop a community of resilient people whose lives have been redeemed by God's grace, transformed by His love, healed of the brokenness of the past, and restored to a diligent and committed relationship with Him and His church. Calvary Church strives to cultivate an atmosphere where God's love is not only experienced but also shared with others in order to pass on the hope we have been given through the grace of Jesus Christ.

A FAMILY & COMMUNITY
According to the Bible, a church consists of a diverse group of born-again men, women, and children completely committed to God and to one another. The church is a living, breathing community seeking to serve Jesus Christ, the church, and lost humanity.
Every member is important and has a specific role to play as individuals. However, as part of the body of Christ, they are unequivocally interconnected with other believers. What affects one member affects the entire body. As Christians, with mutual love and respect, we should always consider others through our words and deeds.
WE SEEK TO:
Participate in the mission of God by fulfilling the Great Commission through evangelism, discipleship, and mission (Matthew 28: 19-20)
Be a loving, nurturing, and life-giving community regardless of ethnicity, race or economic background (1 John 4:7-11)
Be and develop disciples of Christ by maturing in God through the commitment to the study and application of God's word (2 Timothy 2:2)
Develop, equip, and empower today tomorrow's servant leadership in the church to fulfill God's purpose in the world (Matthew 5:13-16)
